Selling

How to price your baby gear

Price it right and it sells in days. Here are the rules of thumb South African parents use.

Start from retail

Find the current new price in ZAR, then discount by condition.

  • Like new: 60–70% of retail
  • Good: 40–55% of retail
  • Fair: 20–35% of retail

Big brands hold value

Premium prams, travel systems and cots retain far more value than fast-fashion clothing. Bundle low-value clothing into lots instead of listing items individually.

Factor in delivery

Bulky items like cots and prams are expensive to courier. Either price for local collection or build the courier cost into your asking price and say so clearly.

Leave a little room

Add 5–10% for negotiation, but avoid inflating the price — overpriced listings go stale and buyers scroll past.
